   Julie and Dave are about to meet for the first time, on the 7^th floor of the Laporte Hospital (Psychiatric Ward).

  We see Dave wandering down the hallway; he comes to a sudden stop.  He’s moving his head from side to side like he hears something faintly.  He realizes it is someone playing the piano.  He starts to walk, making his way though the hall, pausing at each doorway, trying to find the music, he finally comes upon an open doorway. There he sees Julie by herself in the patient  lounge area playing the piano and singing softly, he stands in the doorway for a moment, listening. Then Dave moves in closer and stands behind Julie. Julie plays on for a moment then gets startled and stops playing, she turns quickly around to see Dave.

Dave:

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to freak you out.

Julie:

Oh, that’s ok, I’m used to it.

Dave:

I’m Dave.

Julie:

I’m Julie, Nice to meet you.

 Dave:

Did you write that song?

Julie: 

 Yea…

Dave:

Could you play it again, so I can hear the words?

Julie:

Sure, it’s still a little rough.

Julie starts to play the song  as Dave listens intently the whole time with amazement on his face. 

Julie singing: 

Too many walls surrounding this fortress

Sit all alone for a long long time

Open the doors and out come the cob webs

See behind the shadows in my mind

Too many days I've been living without you

To many nights I've been sleeping alone

To many years of pain and of sorrow

no words left to say, I'm coming on home

Hear the train it's comin

It's coming down the track

A one way trip cuz I'm not coming back

It doesn't need a ticket

Don't have to pay a fair

A desperate soul is what takes you there

She stops playing.

Dave:

Wow, what a trip. I just went through the same exact thing.

Julie:  You did?

Dave:

Yeah, I took a train here too. This is amazing.

Julie:

 Wow!  So I take it you liked the song.

Dave :

It's AWESOME!  You know, I like writing songs, too, and I can already hear a great arrangement in my head for that.  I’d love to get together and work on it with ya, if you’d like?

Julie:

Yeah, if we ever get out of here.

All of a sudden we hear the sound of the crackling loud speaker.

Loudspeaker:  A voice rings out

(Attention………..Attention all patients, meds are now being distributed at the front desk.

Dave and Julie make a mad dash to the door. They fight each other trying to make their way out.
