Fade up-Ext night.

Out in front of The Pantry, Mark is exiting the store with three hot dogs in his hand. Mark is mid-20’s, a bit stocky with really short spiked dark blonde hair. Very confident, outgoing in attitude. Kind of in your face, yet articulate and intelligent. He is a party animal. Dave walks up.

Dave: (Excited)

Hey, Mark, what’s happening?  I haven’t seen you in ages.

Mark:

Daaave, good to see you brother, how’s it going?

Dave: (Looking at Mark’s food)

Death Dogs, man you like living dangerously

Mark:

Yea, I got three of them, you think that’ll do the trick?

(They both laugh)

Mark:

So what's going on?

Dave:

Oh man, a lots been happening since I last saw you.

       I met this cool girl.

Mark: (Mark’s face lights up)

Oh really, is she hot?

Dave:

No, no it’s not like that. I met her in the hospital, and we’re

working on this awesome project.

Mark:

Really, you were in the hospital? Are you ok?

Dave:

Yea, I’m fine. You busy right now? Why don’tcha come over to my house, and I’ll tell you all about it.

Mark:

Sure, can I eat my dogs on the way?

Diss To Dave’s car pulling to the front of his house. They get out of the car and walk up into the house.

Dave:

Come on in and have a seat………   So I met this girl named Julie on the 7th floor of the LaPorte Hospital.

Mark: (Suprised)

The Psychiatric ward?

Dave:

Yea.

Mark

Wooowwww! What was it like up there?

Dave:

It was like club med.

Mark: (Looking confused but smiling)

Huh?

Dave:

Sure, you got three square meals a day, pretty nurses to flirt with, arts & crafts and state sponsored drugs twice a day. I didn’t want to leave?

Mark: (laughing)

You ARE crazy.

Dave

Seriously though, before I tell you any more, let me play some of the songs we’re working on.

Dave puts in a tape with the train song. The both sit down and listen, talking as the music plays. Dave tells the story of how he and Julie met…

Dave: (Mark is nodding his head to the music.)

We were up there because we had separately attempted suicide by laying on railroad tracks…

Voice fades out then back in later in conversation to show passage of time. Dream is now playing in the background

Dave

…So we began a dream that day. Our dream was to put together a show that would tell the story of what we had gone through in our lives. A show about depression and recovery and about how it was our dream that saved us from depression. Here, listen to this next song we’ve been working on called Fly. In the show we’re writing, this song is going to represent how Julie and I met in the hospital.

Mark:

Dave this is AWESOME! This show could be big, I mean really big, like the Beatles or that rock opera that the Who did.

Dave:

I don’t know about all that.

Mark:

No, I’m not kidding, I think you should take a Rock Opera approach, I’m seeing costumes, and sets and sound effects, I’m getting all kinds of great ideas already. Dave, I want in. You know I could really help you guys with this. Let me come out to the next rehearsal and meet Julie and we’ll talk more about it.

Dave:

Sounds good.  I like your ideas. It sounds like you’re really in tune with what we’re trying to do.

Mark:

Dave, I think for the last year of my life, I’ve actually lived on the seventh floor, remember my girl Holly…

Dave:

Yeah, what about her?

Mark:

We moved down to Nashville and…
